Description of the project: "THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT WAS TO INTERWEAVE THEORETICAL ADVANCES IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS IN SYSTEMS THEORY WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF LINEAR ALGEBRA METHODS FOR SCIENTIFIC COMPUTATION IN ORDER TO OBTAIN NEW NUMERICALLY-SOUND PROCEDURES AND ALGORITHMS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SYSTEMS, AS APPEARING IN SIGNAL PROCESSING, AUTOMATIC CONTROL, AND OPTIMIZATION. THE MAIN RESULTS INCLUDE THE EXTENSION OF FACTORIZATION TECHNIQUES FOR RATIONAL MATRICES TO THE MOST GENERAL SINGULAR AND NONCANONICAL CASES, AND THE APPLICATION OF THESE TECHNIQUES TO FIND SOLUTIONS TO SOME OPEN PROBLEMS. "
